Finished

I finished my string quilt including binding on Monday. I was able to give it to Jen to take to Michigan this weekend. This quilt went so quick and was a lot of fun to make. I was able to use almost all my reproduction fabric. I made Britt a table topper using the same technique and fabric. I would like to see if I can make a few more quilts like this before fall. It is a good way to use fabric I no longer want, and I have a lot of that.

String Quilts

I spent most of today making string quilt blocks. It was so much fun. I used reproduction feed sack fabric and cut the strips various sizes. I made eight 12 inch blocks with batting and four 10.5 inch blocks without batting. The quilted blocks will be made into a quilt to give to Love, Inc. and the smaller blocks are for a table topper for Brittany's apartment at school. These blocks work up so quickly. I should be able to finish both projects without buying anything. I am thinking I can make a few more with all the homespun scraps I have in the attic.

Making Quilts

I have been collecting fabric for years to use on a rainy day. I'm not sure what that means really, but I have boxes and boxes of fabric in my attic. This week I brought down several unfinished quilt tops and lots of fabric to complete the tops and use on the backs. My gal pals and I are making quilts to give to shelters and others in need of quilt comfort. I feel so blessed to have the means and the opportunity to make these quilts. They are not fancy or great works of art. They are made for warmth and comfort. Each is made with love and prayers for the special person taking it home.

Pillow cases

I started embroidering these pillow cases tonight. Jen gave them to me in a bag of things she picked up at an estate sale. I don't know how old they are. The original price was $1.69 for the pair. They are edged for a crocheted border. I am doing the flowers in red with yellow centers. I think I want to use them at Christmas time on my bed. I hope to have them done in a couple weeks, I'll post pictures as soon as they are completed.

My First Knit Hat

I knit this hat over the weekend. It was my first time knitting a hat, I crocheted a few last fall. The yarn is a hand dyed wool. I am going to make a couple more for Christmas gifts.

Patterns

I bought this pattern at a local thrift store today. It had not been cut into and had the original instructions included. The pattern is a size 14 ( just my size). I thought about making the longer version but it is for a size 34 bust. I haven't been that in a long time. I don't know if it can be adjusted to a bigger size. I hate to take apart the pattern and find I cant make it fit. I remember wanting a robe like this a long time ago.

I enjoy days like today. I spent most of the day knitting and sewing. I found a few patriotic cross-stitch pieces that I never finished so today I put them together. I'm making them into hangers for the doorknobs. I also have a very old embroidery piece that I'm finishing into a small pillow. I keep finding things that are almost done and just need a little time to finish.
